Hi! I'm Krista!
The founder and creator of Krista From Kansas. I thought it was about time to share some fun facts about myself to allow you all to get to know me a bit better! Read on to learn more 🙂
1. I have 3 degrees.
You read that right…I have three degrees, all from the University of Kansas. Initially, I didn’t even want to go to college, I wanted to become an actress/dancer/model. My parents were very against this idea so I ended up going to a community college on a full scholarship to dance right out of high school.
After completing two years at community college I transferred to KU. During my junior year of undergrad I applied for the joint bachelor/master degree offered by my program. I was accepted into the program and earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and a Master of Health Services Administration in five years total time. During the last year of the master’s program I decided to apply to law school.
I was accepted & attended the University of Kansas School of Law graduating with my Juris Doctor of Law in 3 years. In total, I spent 8 years in higher education earning my degrees.
2. I am a Former NFL Cheerleader
My path to becoming a Chiefs Cheerleader is not a linear one. In fact, it’s a rather long story that I would love to share in another post. In short, I did not grow up dancing. I didn’t dream of or even believe becoming an NFL Cheerleader was something within my grasp. In fact, make it my first time auditioning. And I actually retired from dance but I still felt called to it.
So 4 years after my first audition attempt, I auditioned again. On my second attempt I made it to finals, but didn’t make the final cut. I decided I would audition one more time. If I didn’t make it on my third and final attempt I was moving to Europe. And guess what…I made it. Five years after my first attempt I had finally made the team. I was on the team for two of arguably the best years in Chiefs history. The year before the Chiefs made it to the Superbowl and the year of the Superbowl. I couldn’t imagine a better way to round out my dance career than to retire on a Superbowl win.
3. One of my favorite snacks are raw potatoes.
I don’t exactly know when or how this became a thing. But I’ve loved raw potatoes for as long as I came remember. You may be wondering…how do you even eat a raw potato. And to that I say, just like an apply. I literally peel it, sprinkle it with salt and eat it like an apple. I’m a not sure how healthy it is for me…but I’m still alive so that’s good.
4. I grew up in a town of 1000 people.
I hail from the small town of Overbrook, Kansas. There are no stoplights in my town. There is one gas station, one bar & grill, a small grocery store, and a couple other small local businesses. My high school was a compilation of 3 different towns. I went to a K-8 school until 9th grade when the towns combined for highschool. My parents live on 50 acres. I grew up riding 4-wheelers, go-carts, playing paintball and swimming in creeks & rivers.
5. my dream is to become a travel guide/travel content writer.
I would love for my job & my passion for travel to morph into a job related to travel. I can’t imagine anything more amazing than becoming a true bonafide travel & content writer. To be able to travel & explore this world is such a blessing. Every time I visit somewhere new or a familiar place that I love I get emotional. My goal is to make travel more accessible, and less intimidating.

Great website you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any message boards that cover the same topics discussed here? I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get advice from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thank you!
There are a ton of Facebook groups you can join where you can pose questions.I’d recommend using key phrases like Solo Travel Group, Digital Nomad, or National Parks to get started! Hope that helps!
